Installation Guide for your
AQUAMISER EasyStart Drip Pack

5 Drip
Assemblies
5 Blanking Plugs (to seal holes in the supply tube)
1 End Stop (to seal the far end of the supply tube)
Installation Tool (the pointed end of our Tube Support).
This makes the right hole in AQUAMISER Supply Tube and
most thin-walled flexible tube or hose.
In
addition you will need:
1 tube to
supply water to your system and a connector for your garden
tap. AQUAMISER Supply Tube is preferable but
any sound flexible garden hose will do to start ...
2 a Stanley-type knife to cut your supply tube
3 a kettle or pan of hot (not boiling) water to soften the
supply tube when connecting fittings.
IMPORTANT:
The
End Stop is of the push-fit ("barbed") type designed for
0.5" (13mm internal diameter tube) or hose. If your main
water pressure is too high or the tube or hose more than
13mm, you will need to secure the joint with a jubilee-type
clip.
Planning your System
AQUAMISER Drips are adjustable and can
be used in two ways:
- "Slow"
watering of individual plants, which may need at least 45
minutes each day, or about 2 hours every other day,
depending on plant type
- "Quick" watering of planters, window
boxes and baskets, in most cases in 10 minutes or
less
Notes
- Drips
need low water pressure (14lb/in2 (1 bar or 1kg/cm2)
maximum)
- They
will work in "Slow" mode by gravity only in a small
layout (eg greenhouse) from an overhead tank. For general
use a pressurised system is essential but you will need
to restrict the supply to avoid jetting or forcing the
Adjusters out of their housings.
Water
Supply
- Ideally you will use a water tank to
recycle domestic grey water (from bathing or washing up
etc) or collect rainwater, and use this with a pump to
supply your system
- With
very few exceptions, you will need to pressurise the
supply at least to mains pressure
- In the
UK you must use an anti-siphon valve to prevent
contamination of your domestic water supply when
connecting a hose to a garden tap supplied by mains
water. The valve is often incorporated into the tap
connector and these are widely available at garden
shops
- If
using a water tank fed from the mains there must be a
proper air gap, again to prevent contamination. We
suggest you contact your main water supplier about
regulations applicable to your area

What to do
|
AQUAMISER Tips
|
1
|
Decide on the layout. If you are
including window boxes and baskets you will need to
install supply tube specially to cater for
these.
|
For boxes and baskets run the
supply tube as unobtrusively as possible up the
walls of the house and/or under the eaves so that
it's near the items you want to water. Secure the
tube with hose or plumbers' pipe clips.
|
2
|
Assemble the tools you'll need and
the supply tube and fittings (see again IMPORTANT
above).
|
You can use any flexible 0.5" hose
(preferably AQUAMISER
Supply Tube) and you need to fasten
this securely to the supply with the appropriate
tap connector (available from your AQUAMISER supplier).
|
3
|
Lay the supply tube around the area
to be watered. Soften the far tube end in hot (not
boiling) water and push in the End Stop (see note
above). The tube will shrink around the barb as it
cools.
|
AQUAMISER assemblies
can be positioned within about 15" radius of the
point of connection to the supply tube, so this
allows considerable flexibility. Instead of the End
Stop you can just bend the tube over and tie closed
with strong garden wire.
|
4
|
Install the AQUAMISER
Drips where you want them. Make a
hole for each in the supply tube with the
Installation Tool. Soften the tube at the point of
connection with hot (not boiling) water and gently
push (whilst turning) the Connector for each
assembly into its hole until properly
located.
|
Do not overwork the hole. The
connection needs to be a tight fit to avoid leaks.
Make the joint smartly then hands off, so that it
firms and seals as the tube cools down.
|
5
|
Turn on the supply and observe the
delivery of water. Move each assembly to its final
position and push the spike into the soil.
|
If you have made any of the
Connector holes too big, seal them with a Blanking
Plug and try again. There is a knack to making
connections but you'll soon pick this up ...
|
6
|
Drips can be used either in the
ground or in containers. Position the assembly near
the centre of the plant where it will become
progressively concealed from view as foliage
develops.
|
If the spike is too tall (eg in a
window box) or there is insufficient soil depth (eg
in a small basket), remove it by gently pulling the
Drip head out of the Feeder Tube (soften in hot
water first) then unthreading the tube from the
spike. Replace the head into the Feeder Tube.
Secure the assembly in place with a hook made out
of garden wire.
|
7
|
Set the flow to the desired level
by turning the Adjuster whilst gently pulling it
out (to increase) or pushing in (to reduce).
|
You will feel some resistance as
the Adjusters are designed to fit tightly to avoid
their being forced out under water pressure. See
again the notes above on restricting the water
supply to Drips. They are designed to work at low
pressure ...
|
8 Once you're happy with your installation
you can conceal any exposed supply tube by mulching. This
also helps protect it in extreme weather conditions.
9 Should you need to remove a Drip, soften
the supply tube with hot water, grip the Connector gently
and rotate and pull at the same time. Use a Blanking Plug to
seal the hole in the tube.
10 Provided that the supply is clean, your
AQUAMISER watering system should
require no maintenance. If dirt gets introduced you will
need to dismantle the assemblies to wash or blow it
out.
11 In hard water areas a build up of deposits
is unavoidable. Immersing Sprays and Drips in descaler
solution will clear this.

Planning your System
With all
assemblies connected to a single main water supply, typical
spray diameters will be 48-60" (120-150cm) depending on
supply pressure.
AQUAMISER Sprays need a pressurised
water supply. You can provide this by
- using
a static tank with a pump installed between the tank
outlet and your supply hose
- attaching the hose directly to a garden
tap
System
performance will depend on water supply pressure, the length
of supply hose and the number of components fitted. Higher
supply pressure will enhance spray performance but do not
allow this to be so high that the spray heads are forced out
of their feeder tubes.
